ooc: Part of that plotty goodness series for the AU verse. The second task of the Triwizard Tournament is being handled by all five of the muns in this verse hufflechamp, rockinradishes, sayshisname, bigbadpadfoot, r_moony in recaps. When Dumbledore pulled her into his office to discuss the second task, her initial reaction was, "You want me to WHAT?!?" She then proceeded to make him go over the course of events three times, so she could thoroughly process what exactly would happen. Luna trusted Cedric completely, and knew he would get to her on time HOWEVER she was going to be tied up for a hour or more, under water, in the lake that after researching she had discovered wasn't exactly in the realm of vacant.

"You don't have to do this Miss Lovegood. We could always..."

Her hand was up cutting him off before he could get the rest of that statement out. "Oh no, I'll do it Headmaster. It was never a question of whether or not I would participate."

Luna was smirking as she left the Room of Requirement. Lovely little room that was, and she thoroughly enjoyed the perks of knowing about one of the castle's not so kept secrets. After all it was the perfect solution if you wanted to get away for awhile, if you were gathering with others to discuss plans of action regarding a good cause, or even if you wanted to participate in extracurricular activities. Running her fingers through her hair she took a glance in both directions, then headed toward her common room.

Another perk she enjoyed was being Head Girl, it gave her an excuse if she was ever caught out of her dormitory after hours. Sometimes, she wondered how the Professors kept their sanity. She had her hand in a fair share of the mischief that was caused around the school. Not that she would have it any other way of course, Luna liked being deviant...and loved seeing the shocked disbelieving look on her elders' faces once they realized she was involved in whatever forbidden act that occurred. The trick was not to get caught as much, that way if the act became public knowledge no one would ever suspect sweet Luna Lovegood.

"Miss Lovegood?" A familiar voice came from behind her.

Shit. Busted. Turning around she put on her best smile which coincidently looked less like a smile and more like a smirk. "Yes Professor? Is there a problem?"

Professor Flitwick raised an eyebrow and got a look on his face that pretty much said 'I don't even want to know'. That was probably for the best, but Luna found the image she was getting of the look that would go across his face had she told him far too amusing.

"No, well yes...I've been meaning to speak with you about the Yule Ball." He said looking at her very determinedly.

Oh how she wanted to throw her head back and laugh. She knew that her serving as both of the Hogwart's champions escort was getting under the teaching staff's skin. "What about the Yule Ball Professor?" She asked very sweetly.

"I...you...all of you...Miss Lovegood..."

She raised an eyebrow and held her hand up to cut him off. "Unless the next words out of your mouth are you've found a rule somewhere that prohibits their choice of sharing an escort? Which by the way is highly unlikely since I pretty much know for a fact such a rule is non-existent, you shouldn't even bother. I'm escorting BOTH Harry and Cedric. You should really let that idea settle with you, because I'm afraid it won't be changing."

Flitwick opened his mouth to speak but no words came out. He suddenly became very flustered and he looked rather annoyed, which only made Luna smirk more.

"With all due respect Professor, I'm curious so I just have to ask...what about our arrangement bothers you? Is it that it breaks tradition or that it might border on 'forbidden/taboo' nature for some? Because if it's the latter, that's what makes it that much more appealing don't you think?" She asked jokingly.

Oh sometimes she should really bite her tongue because she had obviously went a little too far with that last bit. His eyes widened and he flushed a bright red color. "20 points from..."

"Yeah yeah I know Ravenclaw." She gave him her patented Luna Lovegood wide eyed smile. "Have a nice evening Professor."

And with that she continued on to her common room, leaving Flitwick behind still shocked and shaking his head. She was sure her Mum would be hearing about this soon, but hey collecting howlers seemed to be the thing to do nowadays.

Fearless, that's what her Mum used to call her when she was little. Luna Lovegood had always been a curious child, poking around in every nook and cranny never afraid of what dangers maybe lurking in the dark. It was a trait that never faded as she began to grow, if anything her curiousness intensified with age. Stubborn and sometimes too smart for her own good, she had the pesky habit of ignoring the rules as well as getting herself into sticky situations. She didn't possess fear for any beast or curse, because that would be advisable, and Luna marched to the beat of her own drummer.

Contrary to popular belief, fear was something that did linger in her heart. It was a blood chilling fear that ran coldly through her veins. A fear that made her look over her shoulder and constantly be aware of her surroundings. The thing that made her crystal blue eyes widen, couldn't be seen or touched, it was something invisible that hung over her every move.

Losing that piece of her that was eternally strong willed and brave was the worst kind of terror. To strip all of that away and steal the one thing she had going for her, would leave her broken beyond repair. Without it who would she be? A scared and foolish little girl forever lost in a world of confusion? The mere idea left a bad taste in her mouth, sending chills down her spine.

Emotional scars can sometimes be more painful than the physical. Call it pathetic or weak, Luna calls it fear.
